Daily Grind of an HVAC Technician

Morning Routine

My day starts early, around 6 AM. After a quick breakfast, I gather my tools and load up the van with the necessary equipment for the day’s jobs. As an HVAC technician at Childs Heating & Air, my responsibilities vary from installations to repairs and maintenance.

First Job: AC Installation

  • The first task of the day is an air conditioning installation at a residential property in Donelson.
  • After discussing the requirements with the homeowner, I carefully measure the space and select the appropriate unit.
  • With the help of my apprentice, we start the installation process, following strict safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines.

Lunch Break and Paperwork

Around noon, we break for lunch. While enjoying a quick meal, I catch up on paperwork, filling out job reports and scheduling maintenance appointments for the upcoming weeks.

Afternoon Repairs

  • In the afternoon, we head to Hermitage to troubleshoot an AC unit that’s not cooling properly.
  • After carefully inspecting the system, I identify the issue and replace a faulty compressor.
  • Before leaving, I run a series of tests to ensure the unit is working efficiently.

Final Checks and Wrap-up

The last task of the day is a routine maintenance check for a commercial client in Mt. Juliet. I meticulously inspect the HVAC system, clean filters, and make necessary adjustments to optimize performance.

As the day winds down, I return to the office, restock the van, and prepare for tomorrow’s challenges. Being an HVAC technician is a demanding but rewarding job, ensuring comfort and energy efficiency for our clients.
